Dear Self…You will find your light.

Dear Self,

This world we live in is not a walk on the red carpet. It isn’t always roses and sunshine but as dark as it gets sometimes, you will make a way.
Despite that darkness you will find the path that gets you to your place of light.

Be careful with who you surround yourself with. People are funny. People are superficial. Learn to rely on yourself. Listen to your gut, trust your instincts.

But above all, put God first. With him, nothing ever fails.

There is no greater power in quitting. The process may be slow but quitting doesn’t make it any faster. It actually leaves you feeling drained. So never quit, regardless of how tough it gets.

You will reach at time when your eyes will be opened to the unfairness and discrimination, the self centered people, and the tribal nuances that lie beneath every social situation.

You will come face to face with tribal stereotypes because you look a certain way and people around you immediately assume you’re a certain way because of where your last name indicates you are from.

It will break your heart.

For you want nothing more than the world to be a fair place, an equal place; a place without labels and stereotypes, without boxes and generalisations.

It bothers you that you sometimes are treated better simply because of where people assume you come from because you’ve never believed in classes and social groupings.

So you yearn for harmonious living, a society where one treats their neighbour as they want to be treated. Where the type of treatment doesn’t vary based on tribe or region; where people are treated as people; with equal love, respect, compassion and kindness.

Emotions know no gender or tribe, no class or grouping; so the way you feel something is just the same way someone else feels it.

So self, treat people fairly. And smile.

Because regardless of the unfairness you see around you; you will be proud of who you became.

I know right now you think you’re inferior and allow people to belittle you because you do not see your own worth.  You have silenced your voice for you think it doesn’t matter.

I know at times you feel lost; like your life has no sense of direction. And that’s okay dear one.

It’s okay to get lost sometimes. It’s okay to feel a lack of direction at your age.

Do not worry. Do not fret. For the woman you become will make you proud.

You turn out better than okay.
And I know without a doubt that if you could see yourself now; you’d shed a tear of joy.

So no, don’t ever sacrifice that golden heart of yours. It will lead you to great places; it will lead you to living life for others. In fact as I write this, you’re working on a project to collect clothing and necessities for orphaned children.

Now smile dear one, wipe away your tears, walk with your chin up; always keep your head held high and stop doubting yourself.

You will make yourself proud.

Love, Helena from the future.
