I never write poems!
But the desire to express what my country means to me turned me into a poet! So I decided to re-post this wonderful poem that I wrote while I was away touring the Eastern Coast Of Australia.
Enjoy!
“Mid Pleasures And Palaces Though We May Roam, Be It Ever So Humble, There Is No Place Like Home.”_John Howard Payne.
To Us Its Home,
Despite the madness that threatens to consume us,
Despite the havoc that that threatens to engulf us,
Despite the danger that threatens to overwhelm us,
It’s the place we call home.
Its the land of our stern grandfathers.
Its the land our our sweet grandmothers.
Its the land that birthed our protective parents.
Its the land that bore our loving siblings.
It’s the place we call home.
For in that madness we find peace.
For in that havoc we find joy.
For in that danger we find solace.
It’s the place we call home.
Its in the loud noise along the streets that we learn the methods of survival.
Its in the hearty laughter of gathered elders that we learn the basics of life.
Its in the mud and soil that covers our skin that we learn the stories of our ancestors.
Its in the sun beating down on our skins that we learn importance of hard work.
Its in the birds singing in the air that we learn the rhythms of generations past.
It’s in the air. It’s in the wind. It’s in the sun. It’s in the night. It’s all around us.
The pride to call this home!
Another reason I’m proud of this land from which I came; Because Its The Pearl Of Africa.
