Watching Eyes..

“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.” ― James Baldwin

At one time or another, we’re all in a position to lead.

We’re parents, teachers, coaches, an elder sibling, managers and committee leaders.  As such, we know that setting a good example is an important part of leadership. But it’s not always easy.

“Kid’s don’t care how many sermons you preach to them. The only sermon they’ll hear is how you live your life in front of them.” ― Bruce Van Horn

You can’t force someone to be nice. You can’t make them be good. You can’t make them believe. But your example, your kindness, your patience and love will affect them perhaps enough that eventually they may choose to do those things.

There are little eyes upon you
And they’re watching night and day
There are little ears that quickly
Take in every word you say
Their little hands so eager
To do the things you do
And little ones who are dreaming
Of the day they’ll be like you

You’re the little person’s idol
You’re the wisest of the wise
In his little mind about you
No suspicions ever rise
He believes in you devoutly
Holds all that you can and do
He will say and do in your way
When he’s all grown up like you

There’s a wide eyed little person
Who believes you are always right
And his ears are always open
And he watches day and night
You are setting an example
Everyday in all that you do
For the little one who’s waiting
To grow up to be just like you

Don’t worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.
