Last month marked our 5th anniversary.
For a while, we were still debating how to celebrate the occasion.
We didn’t want to waste space on self-congratulation, but we also didn’t think we should let the moment pass unnoticed. At the last minute, we came up with an idea: we would invite long-time readers, contributors, and current and former members to send us their thoughts, recollections, and anecdotes about The C256. Maybe we would get enough to fill a few pages.
What we got was enough to fill an entire book. But here are a few that really stood out for us:
Know why I read the C256? Because it doesn’t have forced happiness about it. It presents unflinchingly the most powerful, and sometimes terrifying, aspects of our lives, through Letters 2 Self. It is a good passage of time, but if anything, it has taught me to actually make each moment in life not only more meaningful but also perhaps happier and more intentional_ Anele Keitumetse
I made friends with a girl a while back because a friend of mine reposted something she had shared on her status that I immediately recognized as words from The C256. There should be C256 clubs, where we meet and gather, probably sip some drink, and just talk about how the losses we’ve suffered, the heartaches that torture us, and the various ways in which we are liars and cowards. We’d have a great time. And we’d all be better for it_ Anita Muwanguzi
The C256 pisses me off. It’s like that friend that’s always got good advice, which you know you need but don’t want to listen to, and that’s why I like it. I need to be pissed off sometimes. And so do you. –Priscilla Hiari
To celebrate our anniversary, we also released a new product: The Conversations 256 Magazine. With a special interview from Kenyan CNN Hero and Forbes 30 Under 30, this very first issue, the ‘Impact Issue’ will take you behind the curtain as Agent of Change, Nelly Cheboi, and Disruptor, Sonia Bukirwa of Merezian Collection share defining experiences that have impacted their lives and the work they have chosen to do.
I hope that you read, connect, and recognize the human spirit’s beauty, power, and possibility. Thank you to everyone that dared to open up and share parts of your life in an effort to inspire others. Wishing you all large pockets of peace and joy this month and the remaining months of the year.
Keep hanging onto hope.
